In my experience, art is often misunderstood by the majority of people. Many believe it to be something mass-produced, a mere imitation of what already exists, or a luxury reserved for the wealthy to display their affluence. However, the truth is that art is a profoundly powerful tool capable of transforming one’s thoughts, emotions, and even their very chemistry when approached with care and skill.
Art possesses the remarkable ability to transport us visually to spaces we are not currently in. When we gaze upon art, it can activate the pleasure centers of our brain, stimulating it much like the experience of falling in love. This is because art has the unique ability to communicate and transmit emotions and ideas in ways that words often cannot.
The essence of colors holds the power to affect our brain waves and evoke a wide range of emotions within the human system. The right combination of colors can heal and uplift our emotions, as we respond both physiologically and psychologically to different hues. Additionally, the shapes depicted in art, with their various characteristics such as roundness, angularity, simplicity, and complexity, have been suggested to influence the emotional responses of human beings. Studies claim that each shape carries its own meaning and has the ability to impact human perception.
Art, as a whole, can be truly transformative when one knows how to connect with it. As we understand the effects and impacts that art has on us, it becomes essential to consider what kind of art is suitable for whom. When we display a piece of art on a wall, it significantly influences the ambiance and surroundings of that space. As art contributes to the ambiance it inhabits, the ambiance, in turn, sets the mood, character, quality, tone, and atmosphere of our lives, as we are deeply influenced by the ambiance in which we live.
For a house to truly become a home, it must radiate the right kind of energy. Negative artwork can create an environment of pain and sorrow, while certain images, such as those of water elements in the bedroom, can lead to emotional and mental challenges due to the unstable nature of water. The type of art we surround ourselves with gradually tends to influence our behavior, as the paintings slowly begin to control our emotions and actions.
“ Technology, art, music, dance, spirituality, whatever you may call it – essentially, it is about life finding full exuberance. – Sadhguru
If we seek to bring about change within ourselves, we should first consider changing the ambiance in which we live. A painting that reflects the right kind of energy can have a positive impact on us. When we gaze upon a piece of art that exudes a certain sense of exuberance, it naturally has the potential to transform us in that direction. Just as we capture the essence of a painting, it, in turn, begins to capture us. Technology, art, music, dance, spirituality, whatever you may call it – essentially, it is about life finding full exuberance!
